Throughout my summer in Atlanta, I’ve seen the full breadth of my cities ability to host all kinds of cool DIY punk shows full of moshing and energy, but have yet to see real Pop Music being made. I’m all about shoegaze and experimental noise, but sometimes I just want music to listen to on a sunny day. Cue Suno Deko’s new music video, Thrown Color.
Suno Deko is the DIY Indie Pop alter ego of David Courtrite, whose music is more lively than How To Dress Well and more straightforward than Kishi Biashi. Expect a kaleidoscopic mix of strings, synths, and guitars underneath some soulful vocals. His video for Thrown Color starts with the pigment powder cliche, but then moves to him waving flags in the middle of the woods and lighting matches (only you can prevent forest fires David).
All images aside, its a good song, and there’s more like it on his Thrown Color EP. It even has a physical form thanks to Stratosfear Records, which would make a great 23rd birthday present *COUGH* . Sorry don’t know what came over me. Anyway, it’s cool to see websites like Sterogum and The Fader talk about his work, so people know that cool indie-pop exists in this city and be inclined to move here (like my college friends, I miss y’all) . To personally come and convince y’all to move here, Suno Deko’s going on tour, starting here in Atlanta with How To Dress Well. Here are the dates:
